NISSAN MOTOR CO., LTD.

The label stayed the same while the page behind it changed. That difference—between the provenance of `nissan.com` and the later uses made of it—became the organising fact of a dispute that lasted through preliminary relief, a sweeping injunction, appeal and remand.

Nissan's Australia and New Zealand cyber incident was not only a regional ransomware-and-data story. It showed how vehicle retail, finance, insurance, service history, identity documents, outsourced call-center support and global brand governance can become one accountability surface when customer data is copied from local servers and then partly re-exposed through a response supplier.

A Nissan buyer used to pay for metal, seats, safety, fuel economy and a warranty. The modern buyer is also paying, whether explicitly or through the vehicle price, for software, connected services, diagnostics, dealer data, charging guidance, finance systems and long-running support promises that remain costly after the sale.
