Established on 14 August 2003, CAT Telecom Public Company Limited emerged from the corporatisation of the Communications Authority of Thailand under the Corporatisation Act B.E. 2542. This transition transferred all telecommunications-related assets, rights, and obligations to CAT, ensuring seamless continuity of operations and service provision. With a paid-up capital of 10 billion Baht, CAT operated as a legal entity under the Public Companies Limited Act B.E. 2535, delivering telecommunications and related services domestically and internationally.
In 2021, CAT Telecom merged with TOT Public Company Limited to form National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT), aiming to consolidate resources and enhance Thailand’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Driving Thailand’s digital transformation
Before the merger, CAT Telecom played a pivotal role in advancing Thailand’s digital landscape. The company partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer AWS Outposts, a hybrid cloud solution enabling Thai enterprises and government agencies to process and store data locally, addressing data sovereignty concerns and facilitating cloud adoption .
CAT also focused on developing Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, deploying Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) technology in pilot smart city projects in Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Khon Kaen. These initiatives supported services such as GPS tracking and smart logistics, aligning with the Thailand 4.0 policy aimed at economic modernization.
To bolster its infrastructure, CAT invested in high-speed optical fibre networks and data centres adhering to international standards like ISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1. The company also expanded its international connectivity through submarine cable networks, enhancing Thailand’s position as a digital hub in the ASEAN region.
Through these strategic initiatives, CAT Telecom significantly contributed to Thailand’s digital transformation, laying the groundwork for the integrated services now offered by National Telecom.
