•Nordic Compass brings together major Nordic firms across energy, tech and finance sectors
•Alliance spans energy, defence and capital markets alongside digital infrastructure firms
The fact
atNorth has joined Nordic Compass, a pan-Nordic alliance covering digital infrastructure, energy, deep tech, defence and capital markets. The alliance will present its first initiatives at a summit in Gothenburg in November 2026. atNorth operates data centres across Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, with a focus on sovereign and energy-efficient infrastructure. Nordic Compass is chaired by former Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen.
The Assessment
The move reflects a shift in Nordic data centre development from standalone operator expansion to coordinated regional infrastructure planning. As AI and HPC capacity demands grow, operators are joining cross-sector alliances that span energy, capital and policy rather than competing through individual site expansion. The model suggests Nordic operators are treating compute, power and regulatory alignment as a single strategic layer, with atNorth's pan-Nordic footprint positioning it to participate in multi-market capacity projects.
What to Watch
Track whether Nordic Compass moves beyond its Gothenburg summit launch to announce concrete cross-sector projects, particularly in energy–compute coordination or shared capacity infrastructure. The broader signal is whether other regional data centre operators follow suit in forming multi-industry alliances.
