What happened: Virgin Media Wholesale launches high-bandwidth Ethernet services
Virgin Media Business Wholesale has launched high-bandwidth National Ethernet and Direct Internet Access (DIA) services through its advanced metro network. This improvement boosts delivery speed and enhances the experience for wholesale partners buying services with a 10Gbps bearer.
The launch follows the November introduction of Virgin Media O2’s Converged Interconnect Network (CIN), which combines fixed and mobile networks to simplify traffic management and increase scalability. CIN now features pre-provisioned ports and enhanced capacity, allowing scalable, automated, and cost-effective delivery for 10Gbps services.
Virgin Media also plans to expand its 100Gbps External Network-to-Network Interfaces (ENNIs) at key locations to meet growing market demand. The upgraded infrastructure is set to reduce delivery times by up to 40 days, improving network orchestration and making service activation more reliable.

Why it’s important
This launch is important as it addresses rising bandwidth demands from wholesale partners and their customers. Businesses are handling more data, and the improved delivery speeds, better network orchestration, and faster service activation make it easier to meet these needs. The ability to deliver 10Gbps services faster and more reliably helps wholesale partners offer higher-capacity services.
The rollout is also part of Virgin Media O2’s Project Spark, a multi-million-pound initiative to expand network reach, scalability, and diversity across the UK. The project supports the growing need for connectivity in a data-driven economy. The upgraded infrastructure, including 100Gbps External Network-to-Network Interfaces (ENNIs), sets the stage for future service expansions. High-capacity services like National Ethernet and DIA will be followed by other solutions in 2025. This ensures Virgin Media is ready to meet future connectivity needs and stay competitive.
