•The deal brings cold-plate design and server-side liquid cooling capabilities into Vertiv's portfolio.

•Vertiv now adds thermal validation and system emulation for high-density AI compute environments.

The fact

Vertiv has announced the acquisition of Strategic Thermal Labs LLC (STL), a specialist in liquid-cooling technologies. STL brings cold-plate design, server-side liquid cooling engineering, and high-density thermal validation capabilities. The company is based in Columbus, Ohio, and the acquisition was announced on 27 April 2026. Vertiv confirmed STL will be integrated into its thermal-chain-related capabilities.

The Assessment

The acquisition moves Vertiv further into chip-level thermal engineering by bringing cold-plate and server-side cooling capabilities in-house. It also adds thermal validation and system emulation for high-density compute environments, shifting capability from infrastructure support to integrated system-level thermal design.

What to Watch

Vertiv's rollout of cold-plate-based liquid cooling solutions in AI and high-density data centre deployments, along with early commercial integration of STL validation capabilities into system designs.
