The web design and hosting platform Webflow announced today that it acquired Intellimize, a startup leveraging AI to personalize websites for unique visitors. Vlad Magdalin, the CEO of Webflow, said Intellimize was a natural fit for Webflow’s first-ever acquisition because its product meets a need many Webflow customers share. Guy Yalif, one of Intellimize’s founders, will join Webflow as “head of personalization,” guiding personalization product efforts at Webflow. Webflow , a web design and hosting platform, revealed today that it has purchased Intellimize, a startup that uses AI to customize webpages for each individual visitor. CEO of Webflow Vlad Magdalin stated this acquisition aims to add an AI-powered webpage. About Webflow and Intellimize Guy Yalif—who had previously headed Twitter’s vertical marketing division—co-founded Intellimize alongside Jin Lim and Brian Webb In 2016. Using their combined marketing expertise, Yalif, Webb, and Lim set out to create Intellimize, a platform that could create customized websites for users whenever they wanted. Using artificial intelligence (AI), Intellimize creates pages that adapt to the behaviour and origins of users automatically. Businesses design a public-source context for a website, and Intellimize’s AI experiments, adjusting different dials and knobs, so to speak until it presents the best results to users. It should be noted that Intellimize is not alone in this. However, Intellimize was able to gain a sizable presence in the market for AI-powered marketing, regardless of how it did it through partnerships, technology, or advertising. According to Vlad Magdalin, CEO of Webflow, Intellimize’s product addresses a need that many of Webflow’s clients have: personalizing and optimizing their websites. As such, Intellimize was an obvious choice for Webflow’s first acquisition. Magdalin said that the Intellimize team had an impressive roster of enterprise customers using their solution, and had already built most of the personalization and optimization tools that they were considering building in-house. Webflow thinks Intellimize’s team and product would be a very powerful addition to Webflow’s existing platform, as Intellimize demonstrated world-class expertise in machine learning and AI to power website personalization and conversion rate optimization. Although Intellimize will still be offered separately to clients who are not Webflow customers, it will progressively connect and work with Webflow services. In the meantime, Yalif will join Webflow as the “head of personalization,” overseeing the company’s efforts to develop personalized products. “We can scale and greatly accelerate our forward momentum by joining Webflow,” Yalif stated. Webflow is developing its all-inclusive solution for designing, developing, and optimizing websites. The personalization and optimization components of that vision are built on Intellimize. When Intellimize bands it together, it can challenge the bigger, more costly, and more difficult-to-use competitors in the digital experience market.
