  • Situated at the heart of a bustling maritime route, the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) aims to be the premier Mediterranean hub, offering unparalleled connectivity and state-of-the-art facilities to enhance global shipping efficiency.
  • SCCT combines strategic location with operational excellence, advanced technology, and a commitment to training, while its joint venture structure ensures a focus on reliability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainable contribution to the Egyptian economy.

As the largest, fastest growing Egyptian container terminal, SCCT employees are helping Egyptian people every day by attracting more business to the country, more jobs, more investment. Together, we play a significant role in the Egyptian economy and position in the world by constantly improving our services to compete better than our port competitors in the region.

Strategic location and connectivity

SCCT’s position at the mouth of the Suez Canal provides a zero-deviation route, making it a natural choice for vessels traversing this vital artery. The terminal boasts 18 super-post Panamax cranes capable of handling the world’s largest containerships, including those with capacities exceeding 20,000 TEUs. Additionally, the SCCT can service two ultra-large container vessels simultaneously, underscoring its operational prowess. The facility’s 2,400-metre quay length and a draft of 17 metres accommodate the biggest ships, while advanced ship-to-shore cranes and 60 rubber-tired gantry cranes ensure swift operations. The terminal operates round-the-clock, with streamlined procedures for full and empty containers, reducing turnaround times and enhancing efficiency.

Operational excellence and state-of-the-art equipment

Committed to operational excellence, SCCT maintains high PMPH (Port Moves Per Hour) standards and schedule reliability. The terminal is equipped with cutting-edge technology and IT systems, including a comprehensive feeder network that connects the Mediterranean region. Security protocols are stringent, with full export containers undergoing thorough checks, including X-ray scanning, within 40 minutes. The recent infrastructural developments, such as the 3rd July tunnel and the Ismailia tunnel, have further improved accessibility, reducing transit times and enhancing the terminal’s attractiveness to global traders.

Training and development

Recognising the importance of a skilled workforce, SCCT has established an Engineering Training Lab in partnership with FESTO Didactic Co., a global leader in technical education solutions. This facility equips trainees with theoretical and practical knowledge in equipment automation and technology, ensuring they are ready to contribute to the terminal’s productivity. The lab fosters a culture of continuous learning and improvement, aligning with SCCT’s mission to attract and retain top talent across all levels of the organisation.

Ownership and mission

SCCT is a joint venture launched in 2004 under a 49-year concession agreement. APM Terminals holds a 55% stake and serves as the operator, with other key shareholders including COSCO (20%), the Suez Canal Authority (10.3%), Egyptian private sector (9.7%), and the National Bank of Egypt (5%). The terminal’s mission is to be acknowledged by customers as the most reliable, efficient, and cost-effective hub in the Mediterranean, driving Egypt’s economic growth through international trade. SCCT strives to deliver superior profitability and value to shareholders while meeting customer expectations and fostering sustainable practices that benefit the local community and environment.
