• The latest PS5 Beta update, starting from February 6th, enhances DualSense controller’s speaker volume and noise-canceling capabilities.
  • It introduces screen sharing interactivity and the ability to adjust the PS5 power indicator light’s brightness.
  • This update is part of the PS5 Beta program, offering users early access to test new system features before wider release.

The latest PS5 Beta update began rolling out on February 6th. The new software version enhances the maximum speaker volume of the DualSense controller and improves its noise-canceling function. Screen sharing interactivity is also part of this update, along with the ability to adjust the brightness of the PS5 power indicator light, and several other quality-of-life improvements for the PS5. Users participating in the test should watch their email inboxes for PS5 Beta invitations in the coming days.

The PS5 Beta program, as its name suggests, provides PS5 owners with an opportunity to test new system features before others. Testers should expect some features may not perform ideally, as this is often the case with experimental software updates. Sony began sending invitations for the latest Beta update on February 6th.

The new features for PS5 beta

The new software version introduces three new features, firstly some audio improvements for the PS5 DualSense controller. Specifically, the maximum speaker volume of the controller has been increased, while its noise-canceling function is said to be more efficient. Due to the former change, some users may find the new default DualSense volume too loud for them. Sony advises these PS5 users to adjust the audio level of the controller from the console’s control centre.

New PS5 Beta features in February 2024:

  1. Enhanced audio for DualSense wireless controller built-in microphone and speaker
  • Enhanced controller speaker.
  • Improved noise-canceling function.
  1. Screen sharing interactivity
  • Players can now interact with the console’s screen using pointers and emotive reactions.
  1. PS5 power indicator light brightness adjustment setting
  • Under Settings > System > Beep and Lights > Brightness.

Another PS5 Beta feature Sony is currently testing is screen-sharing interactivity. Specifically, the new OS update supports using emotive reactions and pointers in this mode, allowing users to interact with the console screen while watching them play any given game. This specific feature is not included in the screen sharing preview window, meaning it only works in full-screen view.

The third and final change introduced in this release is the option to adjust the brightness of the console’s power indicator light. To do so, users participating in the PS5 Beta test should navigate to the system section of the settings menu and then select the Beep and Lights tab. The new option will be located at the bottom of the next screen, allowing them to switch between dim, medium, and bright (standard) brightness levels.
