Integrating AI and robotics

The collaborative effort will see the fusion of Siemens’ SIMATIC Robot Pick AI—a sophisticated learning-based vision software—with the robust UR20 robot from Universal Robots. This collaboration is designed to tackle the demanding tasks of heavy lifting and transportation within warehouse settings. Additionally, Zivid’s advanced 3D sensor will enhance the system with its unique capability to capture images of items, including those that are transparent and translucent, further expanding the solution’s applicability.

Revolutionising warehouse operations

Ignacio Moreno, Siemens’ business development manager, remarked on the collaboration, saying, “We are delighted to join forces with Universal Robots and Zivid to bring forth an innovative solution that will significantly enhance intra-logistics fulfillment. Utilising the power of advanced vision technology and premier collaborative robotics, our SIMATIC Robot Pick AI promises to deliver a seamless picking experience in any environment.”

Echoing this sentiment, Daniel Friedman, Global Director at UR, highlighted the vast, untapped potential and the surging demand for automation in fulfilment centres and the e-commerce sector. He stated, “Our solution offers the intuitive ease of use and integration that clients expect from industry leaders in vision, robotics, and detection software. This partnership with Siemens and Zivid is a testament to our ongoing efforts to integrate our robotic platform with cutting-edge AI technologies, reaffirming our commitment to making automation accessible to all.”

The trio will present their comprehensive solution in an in-depth webinar for the first time on the 4th of April, marking a pivotal moment in the journey towards fully automated warehousing.
