Why it’s important

The APNIC 60 conference is often cited as an important event for the Asia-Pacific internet community, bringing together professionals from the tech and internet sectors. While it offers an opportunity for knowledge-sharing and discussions on internet governance, infrastructure, and policy, it’s worth questioning whether such events actually lead to tangible change. Networking with industry leaders and attending workshops can provide valuable insights, but do these events always translate into lasting improvements in the region’s digital infrastructure?

While the conference aims to foster collaboration and enhance skills, the reality is that the digital divide remains a significant challenge in many parts of the Asia-Pacific. How much of the knowledge shared at these events actually reaches underserved communities? Moreover, while these gatherings may encourage important conversations about the future of the internet, there is still a question of whether these discussions result in concrete actions or simply remain in the realm of theory.
