What happened: LINX services now accessible at PAIX Nairobi

LINX, a leading Internet Exchange Point (IXP) operator, has completed the expansion of its Nairobi network to include PAIX Nairobi as a full access point to the IXP. This move follows a successful first year of operation and signals a significant step in supporting the growth of Africa’s digital economy.

LINX Nairobi, launched in November 2023, is a neutral, multi-site IXP serving Kenya’s capital. The network extension to PAIX Nairobi includes key local ISPs and global players such as Meta and Starlink. This expansion allows networks co-located at PAIX Nairobi to become part of a global membership, enhancing their connectivity and access to peering services.

Why it is important

This collaboration with PAIX will help LINX achieve its goal of creating a dynamic interconnection community in the region, enabling networks to exchange traffic locally while accessing global opportunities. PAIX Nairobi, located at the Britam Tower in Upper Hill, the financial hub of East and Central Africa, hosts communities of interest for ISPs, content networks, e-commerce, broadcasting, and gaming companies.

The new partnership ensures that networks within PAIX can now seamlessly connect to LINX’s interconnection fabric, benefiting from the exchange’s extensive global ecosystem and robust technical infrastructure. This expansion marks a significant milestone in LINX’s mission to enhance connectivity and interconnection capabilities in the East African region.
