What happened

The OSPO idea is being promoted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to assist nations and businesses in accelerating the adoption of digital solutions, such as services that provide digital public goods (DPGs) like online payments and identity.

The Tides Foundation-backed project, which is headed by the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, intends to support the global open source ecosystem and enable a variety of organizations to use and continue developing open source technologies for sustainable and equitable digital transformation.​

“Open source technologies can improve people’s lives by helping to build inclusive digital ecosystems and advance digital transformation, which in turn advances socio-economic development,” said Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at ITU. “We can support both national and international stakeholders in the creation, adoption, and implementation of open source solutions, policies, and frameworks.”
