Summary

  • APNIC's 29 October blog says the first host EOI under its updated process opens in March 2027 for the 2029 South Asia conference.
  • APNIC's detailed host page says May 2027 for the same EOI; its own general timetable says the call opens 30 months before the event, which points to March.

Analysis

An organization preparing to host APNIC's 2029 conference now has two official opening months to work with. APNIC's new announcement says the first Expression of Interest opens in March 2027 and runs through September. The detailed host page lists May to September for the same South Asia meeting.

This is not a difference between a draft calendar and a final one. The host page itself sets the general opening milestone at 30 months before the conference, then gives May as the 2029 example. APNIC's conference schedule places that meeting on 6–14 September 2029. March matches the page's 30-month rule and the new blog; May does not. APNIC has published no note saying which date replaces the other.

The opening month matters because a host proposal is a real piece of work. APNIC's assessment covers travel access, visas and safety, venue capacity, Internet capability, technical partners, local membership, past hosting, budget and sponsorship. The Secretariat evaluates the submissions and recommends preferred and backup locations. The Executive Council makes the selection, and APNIC says it will publish the decision with supporting information.

APNIC has named the selector and sketched the evaluation. Its calendar still sends applicants to two different starting lines. The missing fact is specific: which month will the Secretariat treat as the opening of the 2029 EOI?
