Summary
- An AFRINIC Academy page response dated 13 October kept the Botswana Deployathon, scheduled for 6–9 October, in a calendar headed “Upcoming Events”.
- The same page’s “Up Next” cards showed later October dates. AFRINIC’s 18 September invitation confirms the announced Gaborone schedule, not delivery or results.
- The page-state mismatch cannot establish whether the event took place, was postponed or was cancelled; the public listing itself does not give a close-out result.
A calendar can preserve an old date without preserving an event’s status. At 19:56 UTC on 13 October, AFRINIC Academy’s events page returned the 6–9 October Botswana Deployathon beneath an “Upcoming Events” heading. The scheduled interval had ended four days earlier. Elsewhere on the same page, the “Up Next” cards had moved to a Nigeria event dated 12–15 October and a South African Deployathon dated 20–22 October.
AFRINIC’s 18 September invitation had announced a Gaborone Deployathon for 6–9 October, organised with ICT Dynamix, BOCRA and MASCOM. That is evidence of the plan. The invitation and the captured calendar row do not say whether the session went ahead or provide attendance, training or deployment results. A past date is not an event report.
The narrow finding is about the reader-facing schedule: its heading still describes a window that has passed as upcoming while the adjacent cards point to later dates. An engineer using the page to plan training cannot tell from that row whether the event is still being advertised, is being retained as history, or awaits a status update. This single observation does not show that anyone relied on it or was misled.
A useful event record would keep the announced dates and state whether the session is scheduled, under way, completed, postponed or cancelled. A dated status update and a link to any outcome note would let readers separate an invitation from a result. Until the page says more, the dates support only the fact that AFRINIC announced the session for that window.
