This update aims to deliver faster response times and improved quality with particular enhancements in reasoning and image understanding. Google claims that the new model is more efficient and cost-effective to run which is vital for managing the computational overhead of a chatbot platform. Additionally, Google has expanded Gemini’s context window to 32,000 tokens, allowing the chatbot to handle longer text snippets and files and reducing the likelihood of forgetting topics in a conversation.

To address the issue of hallucinations, Google has implemented a feature that displays links to related web content under certain Gemini-generated answers. This feature is designed to provide users with a way to verify the information and understand its source. Furthermore, Google has made file uploads available to all Gemini users, enabling them to analyse data files and uncover insights. The company has also launched a teen-focused Gemini experience, with additional policies and safeguards to protect younger users.
