Njita works with a clear target in AI-powered speech anonymization technology
When you make a phone call or Facetime, or do other activities which will record your voice, it means your identity is also recorded. It’s even not only identity. Your emotions, your location, and other additional data about you can be all revealed.
People may not realize the importance yet, but tech companies that process data are increasingly aware that they should do something about it. Nijta, a French-based startup, is making waves with its innovative AI-powered speech anonymization technology. Its name means privacy in Hindi, indicating its hope to safeguard privacy for clients in need by providing AI-powered speech anonymization technology.
Nijta’s primary focus is on the European market and the reason is very simple. “The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a very strong data privacy law.” its Indian CEO, Brij Srivastava told TechCrunch. This law was launched by the EU, indicating while many companies are hoping to build AI on top of voice data, in many cases, this requires removing biometric information first.

Njita’s tech will play a role in many areas that are relevant to people’s daily lives
The company’s technology offers a compelling solution for enterprises seeking to comply with privacy regulations while exploring the potential of generative AI. It has diverse applications, from call centres handling sensitive health data to educational technology requiring the anonymization of children’s voices for AI-driven pronunciation feedback.
“Nijta’s AI-powered voice anonymization technology offers a solution for many enterprises who are increasingly concerned about data privacy and excited about generative AI,” Elaia investment director Céline Passedouet said in a statement.
Notably, the content generated by Njita is watermarked, which is becoming the standard if not the rule for all things generative AI. The startup also says that Nijta Voice Harbor’s protection is irreversible, different from media which protect interviewers by modifying their voice.
The efforts Njita took not only provided solutions but brought more attention to voice privacy
The lack of awareness of privacy issues around voice is one of the challenges Njita facing. That explains why starting with B2B and Europe: Even if customers don’t feel strongly about protecting voice privacy, large fines risk can make a company an early adopter.
Eventually, though, Njita has its wilder dream. “Real-time anonymization for secure communication is also something that we are very actively exploring,” Srivastava said.
This innovative approach to voice data privacy reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are increasingly recognizing the significance of protecting personal information. As AI continues to transform various sectors, solutions like Nijta’s demonstrate the potential for technology to empower organizations to leverage data responsibly and ethically.
