Cyber attacks and data breaches are on the rise globally. Even large organizations with lots of resources are struggling to keep up with these threats, so what can everyday Internet users like you do?
The antidote for this age
On Safer Internet Day this year, the provider of one of the most secure web browsers decided to launch a tool to help you protect your privacy online. Mozilla Monitor Plus, formerly known as Firefox Monitor, is a new paid service that automatically scans the web to delete your personal information in the event of a breach.
The first scan of Mozilla Monitor Plus is completely free and only available if you are in the United States at the time of this writing. The software adds further security and privacy tools to Firefox, including free email leak alerts, two-factor authentication and VPN services.

We need Mozilla Monitor Plus
“When we launched Monitor, our goal was to help people discover where their personal information may have been exposed,” said Tony Amaral-Cinotto, product manager for Mozilla Monitor. “Now, with Monitor Plus, we’re going to help people reclaim exposed data from data broker sites that are trying to sell it.”
The tool, previously known as Firefox Monitor, was first launched in 2018 as a free service to alert people when they experience a data breach. All you need to do is enter your email address in the scan bar and the browser will check if it is involved in the incident. If you are notified, you can take appropriate action to protect your privacy, for example, changing your account password.
But much has changed since then. The information we share online is growing, but so are data breaches. Vpn provider Surfshark found that in 2023, more than 110.8 million accounts were compromised worldwide in the second half of the year alone, a significant increase.
While we’re all becoming more aware of this growing problem, and quite overwhelming – where should we start?
With this new tool, Mozilla aims to provide an easy way to address this security and privacy issue.
