On another front, Derivco has embraced data-driven people management, using Microsoft Viva and Copilot to build ADAM (Automated Data Analytics Messenger). Dean Napier, People Analytics Manager at Derivco, explained how ADAM integrates behavioural and survey data to send managers timely alerts, for instance when one-on-one meeting time drops—prompting practical support actions. It’s another example of how Derivco is harnessing innovation not only in customer-facing systems, but also in internal operations.

Growth hasn’t come without pain. Derivco partnered with OfferZen to scale hiring in South Africa, hiring over 45 developers and saving about R3 million in agency fees. Meanwhile, internal challenges are emerging. Reports indicate that Derivco offered voluntary retrenchment packages to staff with just 24-hour notice, illustrating turbulence in staffing. Anonymous reviews on workplace platforms express concerns about morale and strategic ambiguity: one reviewer notes managers “playing politics … bringing a once thriving, dynamic company to its knees” and cites legacy systems and uncertainty around career prospects as ongoing issues. Still, even reviewers recognise Derivco’s strengths in training and innovation, especially for employees in well-supported teams.
