• Rising carbon emissions from data centres are now expected to exceed those from the aviation industry.
  • Operating data centers using green and renewable energy sources is a necessary challenge given the growing environmental concerns, especially in energy saving countries like India.

To reduce their carbon footprint, Indian data centre operators are seeking renewable power contracts and introducing sustainability measures.

Environmental protection is mandatory

Today, rising carbon emissions from data centres are expected to exceed those from the airline industry. As a result, data centers are under increasing pressure to find greener operational solutions.
Data centers are very power-hungry and require massive, uninterrupted power supply.India’s data center industry is expected to double in capacity by 2023 and reach over 1GW of IT power load capacity from 499 MW in the first half of 2021, largely driven by strong digitization, growing cloud adoption, and ambitious growth plans by data center operators.

India needs to face challenges

Operating data centers using green and renewable energy sources is a necessary challenge given the growing environmental concerns, especially in energy saving countries like India.
Rachit Mohan, head of data center Consulting at JLL India and co-head of office Leasing Consulting in Mumbai, said that global cloud players are increasing their commitment to the world number two.
India, the largest market for mobile Internet users, is also looking for DC operators that can provide green energy.
