Scaling East Africa access through Ku-band satellite

In 2023, CommCarrier secured a strategic agreement with Azerbaijan’s national satellite operator Azercosmos, gaining access to Ku-band capacity on Azerspace-2 to expand satellite coverage across Eastern and Central Africa. This deal allows CommCarrier to offer higher bandwidth, lower latency, and improved reliability to both public and private clients—including education providers, rural clinics, and remote government installations.

CEO Giri Babu noted the move strengthens Kenya’s position as a regional satellite hub and supports national digital inclusion goals. Additionally, CommCarrier is working with local counties to develop satellite-powered eLearning and eHealth platforms, leveraging Azerspace-2’s coverage in remote counties such as Marsabit and Turkana. With rising demand for cloud services and remote collaboration tools, the Ku-band investment places CommCarrier at the center of Africa’s enterprise digitization shift. It also lays the groundwork for future 5G backhaul and smart village connectivity models.
