• Bouygues Telecom is moving TV functions from several legacy platforms onto Kaltura Cloud TV
  • Aurora Networks is leading integration, while retirement of the older platforms remains in progress

The fact

Bouygues Telecom is deploying Kaltura Cloud TV in France as part of a project to consolidate television functions currently spread across several older platforms. Aurora Networks is leading the integration work, including system design, project management, implementation and custom software development.

The Kaltura platform supports both IPTV and over-the-top streaming across customer devices. The partners said the project brings together video back-end functions that had previously been handled by several systems and is intended to allow Bouygues to retire those legacy platforms.

The migration is still under way. Bouygues described Kaltura as being integrated with its remaining video delivery platforms, rather than saying that every older system has already been shut down. The companies have not disclosed a timetable for completing those retirements, the cost of the migration or measured operating results from the new platform.

The assessment

The main test will come as Bouygues starts switching off the older platforms. While both old and new systems are running, technical teams may still have to support both environments. That means launching the new platform is only part of the consolidation; the operating benefit becomes clearer when the systems it replaces can actually be retired.

Aurora's role covers the project from design through implementation, putting it at the centre of that handover. Each service moved to Kaltura needs to work as expected before the corresponding legacy function can be shut down. If older systems or workarounds have to remain in place for longer than planned, Bouygues could end up supporting another platform without immediately removing the complexity it was meant to replace.

For BTW readers, the useful measure is therefore how the migration changes Bouygues' operating environment, not simply whether Kaltura Cloud TV is live. Named legacy systems being retired, shorter periods of parallel operation and stable service during customer migration would provide clearer evidence that the project is reducing the number of platforms Bouygues has to maintain.

What to Watch

Watch for Bouygues to confirm the retirement of specific legacy platforms or functions as migration progresses. Service performance during those handovers, together with any reported changes in operating costs or support requirements, would show whether consolidation is producing the intended benefit.
