The deal was announced during the Sarajevo Business Forum by BH Telecom’s general manager Sedin Kahriman and AWS’s Jeffrey Kratz.

This cloud system will be used by state bodies, public companies, and other official institutions. The main idea is to keep important data inside the country and under local control. BH Telecom will manage the cloud services from within Bosnia, and AWS will provide support to ensure the technology works well. Both parties plan to work together on training BH Telecom staff so they can develop and maintain the system locally. The cloud services are expected to launch in 2025. Kahriman said the cooperation will help the country move forward with digital development in a secure and practical way.

It also shows how smaller countries can work with global tech firms to build local digital capacity. Sovereign cloud systems are being adopted in other parts of Europe as well. Germany and France have already created the GAIA-X project to manage data locally and protect it under national laws.

Bosnia does not yet have strong cloud infrastructure, so this deal allows it to grow its digital systems faster with the help of AWS. At the same time, the country keeps control of sensitive data by hosting it locally. This is important as Bosnia works to meet EU standards and increase its cybersecurity. Although AWS is a global company, this type of agreement still gives Bosnia a certain level of digital control. The training programme also means more local jobs and technical knowledge over time.
