An update to TikTok’s community guidelines
As a part of updating its community guidelines, TikTok is updating its For You eligibility requirements. According to TikTok’s update, some content types may be included in fine if viewed occasionally, but problematic if viewed in clusters. Content like extreme fitness, dieting, sexual suggestiveness, melancholy and overly generalized mental health information are all included in this.
TikTok will interrupt repetitive content patterns to ensure it is not viewed too often. According to Adam Presser, TikTok’s head of operations and trust and safety, if consistently share content that breaks the rules, the users are temporarily ineligible for recommendation in the For You feed. These accounts will also be more difficult to locate through searches.
A new feature called “Account Check” is being rolled out by TikTok to enable creators to quickly determine if they comply with the app’s policies. If a creator’s content has been banned or removed for violating the terms of service, it can be seen via the Account Check feature.
Additionally, TikTok is introducing a “warning strike” for users who breach the community guidelines. Presser said that a warning strike does not go toward an account’s strike total, but any subsequent infractions will. He said that accounts that infringe on TikTok’s “zero-tolerance” policies (such as encouraging violence) will be permanently banned and won’t be eligible for these kinds of reminders.
The updated community guidelines will go into effect on 17th May.
