Google revealed in an email that the perk will be phased out later this year. Google didn’t provide a specific date when the VPN service will be discontinued altogether, only saying that “people simply don’t use it.” In its place, they will divert resources to support other, more popular One features.

Google one’s VPN service phasing out

Google is phasing out the VPN service that comes with Google One. Back in 2020, Google rolled out the feature, but it was only available for plans with a subscription of at least 2TB of storage (at least $10 per month). But last year, the company extended it to all One plans, including the $2 per month basic plan.

Availability and alternatives

Google One’s VPN service can be accessed from one of the 22 countries where Google One is used, regardless of whether iOS or Android is used. it can also be used to mask network usage on Mac or Windows computers. Even if Google One’s VPN service is turned off, people can still use the free VPN that comes with Pixel devices, which can be accessed through the Settings app on Pixel 7 devices and newer.
