Nokia and Claro Colombia recently deployed an industrial-grade dedicated 4.9G wireless network and edge computing solution at the Sociedad Portuaria Puerto Bahia port terminal in Cartagena, Colombia. –Zora Lin, BTW reporter Nokia and Claro announce the successful completion of the first phase of Colombia’s largest 5G deployment on June 26. The project, completed just four months after the Colombian authorities issue a 5G licence, will deliver state-of-the-art radio, core and transmission technologies to provide best-in-class coverage and connectivity.

Analysis
Under the contract, Nokia will supply equipment for both indoor and outdoor scenarios from its comprehensive, energy-efficient AirScale portfolio. This includes base stations, high-capacity massive MIMO antennas, and long-range radio head (RRH) solutions. Nokia has also signed further agreements to deploy an additional 400 5G sites, providing its MantaRay NM solution for seamless network management and MantaRay SON for automated operations as well as network optimization and technical support services.
