The rapid development of the Internet in Latin America and the Caribbean naturally comes with increased risks. Thus, LACNIC’s work to develop and protect Internet infrastructure is key to maintain the stability of Internet connection in the region. On February 28th, Lacnic will review the past detailing the participating infrastructure programs through the webinar.
Importance of critical internet infrastructure
Critical Internet infrastructure is of utmost importance as it serves as the backbone of the digital world, ensuring stable and reliable connectivity for individuals, businesses, and organizations worldwide. This infrastructure encompasses a wide range of components, including data centers, network infrastructure, DNS systems, IXPs, and routing systems. By establishing a robust and resilient infrastructure, it enables efficient data transmission, seamless access to online services, and rapid information exchange. Latin America and the Caribbean have been hit hard by the Internet, and lacnic has played a crucial role in participating in critical Internet infrastructure initiatives.
Programs for discussion
The webinar will cover several topics. Firstly, LACNIC will discuss the +Raíces program, which aims to enhance DNS access resilience by deploying LACNIC anycast DNS servers or DNS root zone servers.

LACNIC will go through deploying measurement platforms in local ASNs and organizing deployathons for communities in different countries. The deployment of BGP collectors at IXPs or other networks of interest will be another topic addressed. Additionally, LACNIC will dedicate a special section to critical technologies prioritized by LACNIC, such as IPv6, RPKI validation, ROA creation, DNS/DNSSEC adoption, and more. These technologies play vital roles in the regional Internet infrastructure ecosystem.
The support for strengthening local human capacities in the region will also be discussed including organizing workshops, tutorials, meetings, and other activities at the national level to disseminate LACNIC’s strategic messaging. LACNIC will share specific experiences and highlight its collaboration with national Network Operators’ Groups (NOG) to foster cooperation and collaboration in each country.
In the end, LACNIC will introduce the R&D Ambassadors program, which aims to formalize collaboration between technological leaders in the community and LACNIC.
