What happened: RCS rollout with full US carrier support

Infobip, a global cloud communications platform, announced that it has successfully launched RCS Business Messaging services across all four major US mobile operators: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. This makes Infobip the first communications provider to achieve full cross-carrier RCS deployment in the United States.

RCS (Rich Communication Services) allows businesses to send media-rich, interactive messages that go beyond traditional SMS, including appointment scheduling, high-res images, videos, product carousels, and two-way communication via mobile data or Wi-Fi. Infobip’s unified platform integrates with existing CRM and marketing tools, enabling brands to create immersive, branded customer journeys.

This launch comes as US operators increasingly adopt the GSMA’s Universal Profile standards for RCS messaging, marking a significant shift in business-to-consumer communications.

Why it is important

The nationwide launch of RCS marks a pivotal shift for US telecom carriers aiming to regain control of the messaging experience. For years, third-party apps like WhatsApp, iMessage, and Messenger have dominated personal and commercial communication, leaving carriers sidelined.

With RCS natively integrated into Android’s default messaging app, carriers now have the tools to offer rich-media, branded, and interactive communication directly to users — without needing a separate platform. This also enables verified sender IDs, read receipts, advanced analytics, and service tracking — allowing telecom providers to reassert themselves in the enterprise messaging market.

For businesses and marketers, RCS offers a mobile-native upgrade that bridges the gap between messaging and app-like interaction. Brands can embed product carousels, how-to videos, booking forms, chatbots, or support tools — all inside a single message thread. This reduces user drop-off, increases trust, and boosts overall campaign ROI.

The ability to guide customers through an entire sales or service journey within a secure messaging channel is especially valuable in industries like finance, retail, healthcare, and travel, where timing, trust, and seamless interaction are critical to conversion.
