A replacement battery rack can fit the room, the voltage window and the maintenance plan yet still fail as an option. From 2027, a qualifying industrial battery also needs an evidence chain that can travel with the hardware.

An empty switchgear bay looks like future capacity. After the applicable F-gas date, it is capacity only if a lawful replacement can be commissioned, integrated and serviced before the resilience window closes.

Europe’s secure-connectivity programme has crossed an important contractual boundary. The Commission and SpaceRISE have fixed a larger, 348-satellite architecture and a path from detailed design to launches and ground infrastructure. That reduces one kind of uncertainty while exposing the harder ones: financing, industrial delivery, secure operations and the gap between progressive connectivity from 2029 and SES’s MEO service target in 2030. A validated plan is investable evidence. It is not yet a network.

Article 50 of the EU AI Act now requires in-scope systems to disclose AI interaction, embed detectable machine-readable markings in synthetic output, and label specified biometric, deepfake and public-interest uses. The duties are binding; signing the supporting code remains voluntary.

The European Union has opened procurement for up to seven AI gigafactories, backed by as much as €10 billion of EU and national money and an expectation of at least €20 billion in private investment. The significant instrument is not the subsidy alone. EuroHPC and 18 Member States intend to buy compute access time from the selected operators. Europe is trying to make itself the first customer for an infrastructure class that private capital may otherwise judge too large, too power-hungry and too exposed to scarce accelerators. The tender converts sovereignty from a political ambition into a purchasing contract—without yet solving the price of electricity or dependence on American chips.

The European Commission has attached separate penalties to the two places where Google can shape a transaction before it happens: discovery in Search and the route from an app to a cheaper offer outside Play. The combined number is €890 million, but the economic finding is not one generic platform offence.
