MTN Digital Infrastructure has partnered with a UAE-based investment platform to develop AI-ready data centre capacity across Africa.

Africa Data Hub Holding will initially target South Africa and Nigeria, with MTN saying land purchases and power negotiations are already under way.

IHS shareholders have authorised the merger that would allow MTN Group to buy the tower company shares it does not already own. The vote removes a material corporate hurdle; regulatory approvals, closing conditions, payment and the transfer to full ownership still stand between the proposal and an integrated tower operator.

Ericsson's Sub-Saharan Africa signal is not simply that more people will use mobile data. The stronger reading is that operators are being pushed toward a different revenue stack: mobile money, fixed wireless access, cloud-native core networks and radio upgrades that turn connectivity into payments, household broadband and enterprise services. That is a more demanding story than subscriber growth, because it tests whether networks can carry higher-value services without pricing out the users those services are meant to reach.
