An OSPF prefix can cross an area boundary without losing reachability and still lose part of its history. The new LSA names the Area Border Router that relayed it, not necessarily the router that first originated it. RFC 9084, edited by Ketan Talaulikar with four co-authors, adds a deliberately narrow record of that missing identity. It does not change the route calculation or prove that the named source is truthful. Its value lies in making provenance available without pretending that provenance is authority.

Ketan Talaulikar's attributed IETF record connects Segment Routing policy identity, BGP-LS topology records, and OSPFv3 visibility for SRv6. Together, the collaborative specifications show why automation needs explicit identities, current records, bounded compatibility, and observable failure behavior.

A number can name an objective without making it true. In Segment Routing Policy, `Color` can associate traffic with an intent such as low latency. Yet no packet becomes faster because a controller has attached that label. Between declared intent and forwarding lies a chain of candidate sources, topology inputs, validity tests, local selection, forwarding installation and actual steering. Ketan Talaulikar's standards record makes that chain unusually visible—and shows why a green policy dashboard is not the same thing as running evidence.
