A routing error that lasted roughly fifteen minutes should not be confused with the outage it initiated. In July 2022, KDDI reverted an incorrect route setting, yet millions of voice and data users remained affected while signalling retries congested VoLTE nodes, overloaded the subscriber database and complicated recovery for more than two days. The gap between the short trigger and the 61-hour-25-minute service effect is where network-infrastructure accountability begins.

KDDI's July 2022 disruption began with an incorrect route setting during planned maintenance, but the consequential failure came after the setting was reverted: millions of devices tried to register again, VoLTE nodes and subscriber databases congested together, and a short interruption became a nationwide test of emergency access, public-service dependency, customer redress and verifiable repair.

A Japanese enterprise does not pay KDDI only for mobile data, fibre or cloud capacity. It pays for a continuity stack whose hidden cost sits in spectrum, fixed access, data centres, cyber response, field support and the memory of what happens when a national network breaks.
