Google Cloud has made regional Admin API endpoints generally available for Cloud SQL for MySQL. A narrower entry point still leaves customers managing wider dependencies.

Google Cloud says planned optical maintenance caused unexpected congestion in its Dalles, Oregon metro and `us-west1` region on 20 August. The high-severity incident record names 27 affected products and shows that customers were advised to fail over to other regions before the full recovery sequence closed.

Google Cloud is a risk and accountability case because the UniSuper service disruption showed that cloud resilience is not only a question of regional redundancy, durable storage, or ordinary backup policy. When the failure begins inside the provider's administrative control plane and affects the customer's private cloud environment, the public evidence has to show who controlled deletion safeguards, backup separation, restoration sequencing, communication, and proof that a critical tenant could recover from a provider-side administrative failure.

The 2015 Google Compute Engine Persistent Disk loss in Belgium was tiny by percentage and large by lesson: choosing a local cloud zone can satisfy latency or residency aims while still leaving the customer without an independent, recoverable copy when the physical failure domain destroys recently written state.

Google Cloud can show powerful models, AI workflow tooling, data grounding and cloud-scale infrastructure. The harder enterprise question is whether a repeated AI task can become an accepted governed output without losing permission boundaries, data context, evaluation evidence, cost control and a credible route back when the output is wrong.

Google Cloud's June 2025 outage began with a malformed quota policy, not a failed data centre, yet it crossed regional boundaries in seconds, disabled the systems customers needed to understand the incident, and pushed recovery traffic into another overload. The event makes a difficult cloud risk visible: regional infrastructure can be physically redundant while still sharing a control plane, a change channel, and a route to failure.
