Delta Air Lines' dispute with CrowdStrike after the July 2024 Falcon outage is not only a fight about who caused a defective endpoint update. It is a test of whether a major operator can preserve enough recovery evidence to separate supplier fault, airline restoration duty, passenger redress, regulatory scrutiny, insurance claims, and enterprise-technology accountability after a common dependency fails.

The CrowdStrike outage began as a defective security update, but Delta's longer recovery made the public accountability question broader: when a supplier fault disables an airline's machines, the airline still controls passenger notice, recovery sequencing, refund evidence, and the operating record regulators can examine.

Delta Air Lines did not cause the faulty security-content update that disabled Windows endpoints across the world on July 19, 2024.
