A planned BGP maintenance window is not a surprise failure. Yet an operator who closes the session first can make it behave like one: the old routes vanish, the network begins searching, and packets arrive while the replacement path is still becoming usable. The more disciplined sequence is less dramatic. Announce that the path is leaving, make it unattractive while it still works, watch traffic move, and only then close the door.

Bruno Decraene's person-attributed IETF record connects Segment Routing architecture, coexistence with LDP, faster IS-IS flooding, and topology-independent fast reroute. Read together, these collaborative documents show that routing resilience depends less on protocol slogans than on explicit transition, capacity, and repair boundaries.

A route reflector can choose a perfectly valid BGP path from the wrong place. RFC 9107 makes the observer's location an explicit input, letting one control-plane service calculate from the standpoint of the clients it serves without pretending that “optimal” means best in every operational sense.
