Ascend ERP Cloud once promised that customers could reach their ERP systems from anywhere while specialists handled servers, patches and compliance behind the screen. The address it advertised was a serviced office in downtown Denver, not a disclosed data centre; the company website later lost its business content and the domain is now unregistered. That arc makes Ascend a useful test of the physical and contractual promises hidden inside “private cloud”: who holds the disks, who can restore them, and how a customer leaves when the named host can no longer be reached.
