WindTre has switched on its next-generation 5G Standalone network in Italy and immediately begun offering network slicing capabilities for business customers. The deployment, developed with vendor partner Ericsson, places WindTre among a small group of operators now moving beyond basic 5G coverage to deliver differentiated services enabled by a full 5G-native core network. Unlike earlier 5G implementations that relied on 4G infrastructure beneath the radio access layer, WindTre’s 5G SA network runs independently, delivering the low latency, high reliability and quality of service (QoS) needed for enterprise-grade use cases. The network slicing service effectively partitions the public 5G network into multiple “virtual private networks”, each tailored to specific performance requirements.
