What happened: Proximus global and Nokia join forces to enhance network API access

Proximus global has announced a partnership with Nokia to enhance network API accessibility for developers. The collaboration, unveiled at MWC25, aims to integrate proximus global’s APIs into Nokia’s network as code platform while enabling Nokia’s 5G and CAMARA APIs to reach a wider audience through proximus global’s ecosystem.

The partnership will allow developers to leverage network APIs for various enterprise applications, including fraud detection, network slicing, and enhanced connectivity services. A key focus will be on enabling real-time fraud prevention through location-based data analysis and optimising network slicing for large-scale events such as concerts. Proximus global will utilise Nokia’s network exposure platform and enterprise API hub, streamlining API access for developers across its 5G and 4G networks.

Nokia’s network as code platform, launched in september 2023, has rapidly expanded, now boasting 55 global partners, including BT, Deutsche Telekom, and Orange. Nokia has also broadened its API monetisation strategy to include collaborations with Google Cloud, Infobip, and Rapid.

Proximus global, formed through the merger of BICS, Telesign, and Route Mobile, aims to strengthen its communication APIs by integrating network capabilities. The company’s enterprise and wholesale customers will benefit from expanded API functionalities, further bridging the gap between telecom networks and developers.

Why it’s important

Network APIs are transforming telecom by enabling developers to integrate advanced network functions into enterprise applications. The proximus global Nokia collaboration underscores the rising demand for open, standardised APIs to enhance security, scalability, and service flexibility.

A key focus is fraud prevention, leveraging real-time location data to detect suspicious activities. Additionally, 5G network slicing ensures optimised resource allocation for events, remote work, and IoT deployments.

Nokia’s network as code platform streamlines API exposure and monetisation, aligning with GSMA operator platform standards. Proximus global’s CPaaS expertise broadens enterprise access to telecom capabilities.

By expanding API accessibility, this partnership could accelerate enterprise software innovation, IoT connectivity, and digital identity verification. As demand for programmable networks and cloud-based telecom solutions grows, integrated APIs will be central to next-gen telecom services.
