What happened

According to multiple reports, MTN is planning to build its largest West African data centre. MTN Chief Technology Officer Mohammed Rufai says the move to build the data centre aims at strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

“The data centre will also enhance content delivery by major tech companies such as Meta and Google, bringing content closer to Nigerian users and improving access speed,” he says.

It will provide the space and services needed to enable companies to operate digitally and become more efficient, playing a key role in meeting the growing data needs of businesses and consumers across the country.

Mohammed Rufai adds, “In our climate, up to 60% of the electricity consumed in a typical data center is used for cooling, and MTN’s efficient system will ensure that we meet our sustainability goals.”
