Intel has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence chip, Gaudi 3, competing with Nvidia in the background of the AI market boom.
Gaudi 3 vs Nvidia
Gaudi 3 is highly expected to be competitive with Nvidia.
According to Intel, Gaudi 3 is more than twice as power-efficient as Nvidia and saves one and a half time while running AI modules. Compared with both kinds of chips, Gaudi 3’s use less power.
With the tests of Gaudi 3’s chips by Intel, helping to train or deploy models can be realised by Gaudi 3. For example, according to the tests, it can provide support for Speech recognition of Stable Diffusion and Open AI’s whisper.
Gaudi 3 employs a relatively new manufacturing technique— five nanometer process.
Das Kamhout, vice president of Xeon Software at Intel, mentioned Gaudi 3 will be at a competitive price which hasn’t been announced.

AI market boom
The relatively higher costs of buying Nvidia GPUs and running generative AI prompt companies to seek additional suppliers who can bring costs down.
Besides Intel and Nvidia, AMD has already attracted Meta and Microsoft as customers depending on MI3000X, a new data centre GPU which was launched last year.
Earlier than Gaudi 3, Nvidia introduced the successors to the H100—B100 and B200 GPUs which are promised to boost performance.
Open software is planned to be built with Intel cooperating with Google, Qualcomm, Arm and other software giants to provide the convenience of switching chip suppliers for software companies.
