    • Singtel and Ericsson collaborate on 5G deployment at Tuas Port.
    • Partnership supports PSA’s vision for a fully automated port by the 2040s.

    What happened

Singtel and Ericsson have joined forces to deploy cutting-edge 5G connectivity solutions at Tuas Port, which is part of PSA Singapore‘s (PSA) ambitious plan to construct the world’s largest fully automated port by the 2040s. This 5G integration will play a pivotal role in enhancing the port’s operational capabilities, with a focus on increasing efficiency, safety, and the seamless handling of cargo through advanced technologies such as real-time tracking, automation, and data analytics.

    Why it is important

The collaboration between Singtel and Ericsson at Tuas Port is significant as it marks a substantial advancement towards the realization of PSA’s goal for a fully automated port. The deployment of 5G connectivity is crucial for supporting the complex technological infrastructure required for automation on such a large scale. By leveraging 5G, Tuas Port will be able to implement high-speed, low-latency communication systems that are essential for coordinating the movements of automated guided vehicles, cranes, and other equipment. This initiative also underscores the broader impact of 5G technology on the future of logistics and port operations, setting a precedent for other ports globally to follow in adopting advanced technologies for improved efficiency and competitiveness.
