    What happened

Swisscom has joined forces with Ericsson to launch a standalone Mobile Private Network (MPN) tailored for enterprises. Built on Ericsson’s private 5G network portfolio, the solution offers secure, localized connectivity, ensuring that sensitive or high-volume data remains within the customer’s premises. This is ideal for applications such as robotics, digital twins, or connected workforces.

The MPN is preloaded for quick deployment in both indoor and outdoor environments, enabling companies to operate independently of public networks. Kenneth Ong, key account manager at Ericsson Switzerland, highlighted the partnership’s focus on providing “commercially viable solutions” for dynamic industrial settings.

Swisscom plans to expand the solution’s capabilities in the coming months. Fredy Portmann, head of connected business solutions at Swisscom, emphasized the importance of collaborating with a proven supplier to advance private networking for businesses in Switzerland. This marks a significant step in the growing adoption of 5G for enterprise applications.

    Why it is important

The launch of Swisscom and Ericsson’s standalone Mobile Private Network (MPN) marks a significant step forward in the adoption of 5G technology for businesses. Private 5G networks are increasingly essential as industries move toward advanced technologies like robotics, digital twins, and IoT. Unlike public networks, these private systems provide secure, reliable, and localized connectivity, ensuring sensitive data stays on-site.

Moreover, as industries accelerate digital transformation, the need for tailored connectivity solutions becomes more critical. According to Ericsson, private 5G networks are designed to meet the demands of complex and dynamic environments, helping businesses enhance both efficiency and security. By choosing Ericsson, Swisscom underscores the value of partnering with established providers to deliver trusted and scalable solutions.

Furthermore, the introduction of preloaded, ready-to-deploy networks makes it easier for enterprises to adopt this technology quickly. As demand for high-speed, secure connectivity continues to grow, this collaboration exemplifies how innovative partnerships can address evolving business challenges. Ultimately, this development highlights the broader trend of 5G shaping the future of enterprise networking.
