    • RIPE NCC has announced the publication of the translation of its basic IPv6 course in Ukrainian and Russian.
    • This translation of the course provides equitable access to internet resources, enabling professionals to more effectively implement and manage IPv6.

    OUR TAKE
IPv6, the latest version of the Internet Protocol designed to replace IPv4 and address the limitations of its predecessor, has been crucial to the development of the Internet. The translated courses contribute to improving the cybersecurity knowledge of network operators in Ukraine and Russian-speaking countries, contributing to the maintenance of the global Internet environment.

    What happened

RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) has announced the publication of the translation of its basic IPv6 course in Ukrainian and Russian. The course is now available on RIPE NCC’s YouTube channel with a series of video lectures, including “IPv6 Basics in Ukrainian” and “IPv6 Basics in Russian”.

Historically, RIPE NCC’s training materials have been provided in English. Recognising the growing need for inclusion and accessibility, RIPE NCC began expanding its language offerings. In 2022, RIPE NCC began offering training courses in the Ukrainian language, starting with online training for the Ukrainian technical community.

Expanding to 2024, this effort has been deepened with the addition of two webinars in Ukrainian. This is part of RIPE NCC’s broader commitment to providing high-quality technical education to groups in different languages and regions.

RIPE NCC plans to translate more courses in the future.

    Why it’s important

With the rapid development of the Internet, access to localised training materials can help bridge the knowledge gap. The multilingual courses published by RIPE NCC help support regional development and enable professionals to implement and manage IPv6 more effectively, contributing to a more robust Internet infrastructure.

By offering courses in Ukrainian and Russian, RIPE NCC ensures that more people can access important information about IPv6, regardless of their language proficiency, reflecting a commitment to inclusiveness in the global tech community. It recognises the diverse linguistic backgrounds of Internet professionals and provides equitable access to important educational resources.

In 2022, the organisation introduced Ukrainian language training courses in response to the increasing demand for localised technical education due to the geopolitical tensions affecting Ukraine and its surrounding region. This development marks an important step in expanding access to key Internet education resources.
