AFRINIC's 2025 election was not a normal governance calendar item. It was the attempt to restore a regional internet registry that had been operating for years without a functioning board, under a court-appointed receiver and under pressure from ICANN, the NRO and its own members. The important fact is the sequence: ICANN challenged the fairness of the June process, the receiver annulled that vote, a September electronic election produced a new board, and the October board-receiver statement shifted the problem from electing directors to rebuilding policy, audit, litigation and membership machinery.
