A Barnes & Noble pickup order looks simple from the customer's side: find the book online, reserve or pay, wait for a ready message, show identification, leave with the item, and keep the same membership account working across store and web. The harder question is whether that convenience earns enough to pay for inventory accuracy, store labor, account trust, returns, shrink control, platform dependency and the lease that keeps the pickup counter open.
