Japan and the U.S. will announce closer cooperation in high-tech areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) in a joint statement when Prime Minister Fumio Kishida meets with President Joe Biden next month.
Cooperation between Japan and the United States
According to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper on Saturday, The joint statement describes the relationship between the two allies as a “global partnership” that will advocate greater cooperation in the areas of artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
As part of the agreement, Japan and the U.S. may create a framework for AI research and development, working with companies such as NVIDIA, Arm, and Amazon.

Blow to China
In recent months, the United States has moved aggressively to halt exports of advanced artificial intelligence chips to China to prevent Beijing from acquiring cutting-edge U.S. technology that could bolster its military power.
According to the Nikkei report on Saturday, Japan and also the European Union reached an agreement on a plan to start talks about cooperating on advanced materials for next-generation chips and batteries to reduce their reliance on China.
