    • China’s 5G market is booming, with six times as many 5G base stations built in three months as installed in the US in two years.
    • China is turning to technology as a source of sustainable growth, with the potential for even greater expansion by 2030.

China’s booming 5G market is expected to add nearly US$260 billion to its GDP by 2030, and its 5G connections account for nearly a third of the global total.

According to a study issued on Tuesday by the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), the mobile sector contributed 5.5% of China’s GDP last year, and in the coming years, by 2030, nearly a quarter of that contribution will come from 5G.

China has built six times the number of 5G towers in 3 months than the US has installed in 2 years, the association believes By 2030, the mobile market will contribute around $1.1 trillion to the Chinese economy.

By the end of last year, China’s 5G subscribers reached 810 million, accounting for 45% of the total number of mobile subscribers, ahead of the United States and South Korea.

In terms of the number of mobile phones globally, China has the largest number of mobile phone users in the world.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, there were 122.5 mobile phones per 100 people at the end of last year.

    China’s investment in information technology

China expects to launch a new round of 5G investments in 2024 and beyond.

In addition to its continued investment in 5G, China is also investing heavily in research and development of next-generation mobile technologies.

Although 6G has yet to be officially standardised, China Mobile, the country’s largest cellular operator, announced last month that it had successfully launched the world’s first satellite for testing 6G architecture.

This marks the beginning of China’s exploration of the 6G technology field.
