    OUR TAKE
In a recent edition of The Verge’s Decoder podcast, Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber shares the company’s long-term plans and vision for one of its flagship products, the Forever Mouse. Faber emphasises that, through careful design and constantly updated software services, the Logitech hopes that Forever Mouse will be the only mouse that consumers will eventually need to buy, thus reducing the need for frequent hardware replacements. Additionally, Faber discussed the use of AI technology in the product, and she believes that as AI technology evolves, future interactions will become more natural and seamless, however, she believes that human involvement and interface design will remain key factors.

    What happened

Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber shares the company’s vision for a high-end mouse called the Forever Mouse. Designed as a long-lasting device, the mouse is intended to be the ultimate mouse that consumers won’t have to buy again through constant software updates and superior service. Faber mentions that the Forever Mouse will feature a heavier texture, superior software and constant service updates, and an attractive exterior design as a way to attract consumers. She also stresses the importance of software in this business model and discussed how to determine an appropriate subscription service model.

In addition, Faber discusses the use of AI in products. She claims that Logitech is using its Options Plus software to guide users in their interactions with AI, and sees this as an early stage in the development of AI. Also, Faber predicts that AI will become more multimodal and better able to understand the needs of the user without the need for the user to explicitly construct cues. She says the future of HCI is still very bright, and Logitech will continue to work on innovating and improving them.

    Why it’s important

By launching the Forever Mouse concept, Logitech is not only demonstrating its commitment to the premium market and long-term product lifecycles, but also reflecting the company’s focus on sustainability and consumer satisfaction. The Forever Mouse concept challenges the traditional model of rapid iteration and frequent replacement of consumer electronics products by proposing a more environmentally friendly and economical solution that can have a far-reaching impact on the entire industry, driving other companies to consider similar product strategies and business models.

Hanneke Faber’s discussion on the use of AI in products provides industry and consumer insights into the future of technology. Her outlook on the multimodal development of AI technology and the future of HCI indicates Logitech’s ambition in technology innovation and emphasises the company’s continued focus on user experience and HCI design.
