    • US will work with Mexico to explore semiconductor supply chain opportunities to reduce technology dependence on China and Taiwan.
    • The partnership will take place as part of the U.S. Chip Act, which will be enacted in 2022.
    • The partnership will first assess Mexico’s existing semiconductor industry, regulatory framework and workforce needs.

    Cooperation of the Americas

The United States will work with Mexico to explore semiconductor supply chain opportunities, the State Department said on Thursday, as the Biden administration pushes to reduce reliance on technology from China and Taiwan. The collaboration will take place as part of the American Chip Act, a 2022 law that establishes a $500 million fund to grow the semiconductor supply chain through initiatives with Allies and partners.

    Consideration before working together

In a statement, the department said: “The manufacturing of essential products, from automobiles to medical devices, relies on the strength and resilience of the semiconductor supply chain.

The partnership will first assess Mexico’s existing semiconductor industry, regulatory framework and labor needs, the ministry added. There was no clear response from Mexico.
