    • Schneider Electric and Nvidia collaborate on AI data center cooling systems to address energy efficiency
    • The partnership combines liquid cooling technology and AI servers for sustainable infrastructure solutions

What happened: Schneider and Nvidia redefine AI data center cooling innovation

French electrical equipment maker Schneider Electric is working with Nvidia to develop designs for data center cooling systems for use in new artificial intelligence data centers, it said on Wednesday(December 4).

The collaboration with Nvidia focuses on providing efficient cooling solutions for AI data centers. Schneider Electric’s cooling designs will be integrated into Nvidia’s high-density AI cluster servers, including those with GB200 NVL72 and Blackwell processors. These servers consume up to 132 kilowatts (kW) per rack and are optimized for liquid cooling.

Another important aspect is software integration. Schneider Electric provides tools such as Exodial and EcoStruxure IT Design CFD, which allow users to match cooling design to specific AI workloads. This promotes both sustainability and operational efficiency for high-density applications.

    What it’s important

The partnership between Schneider Electric and Nvidia addresses a pressing challenge in AI infrastructure: sustainability in the face of soaring energy demands. With data centers contributing 1% of global energy consumption, their environmental impact is significant. Industry leaders like Microsoft and Google are also pursuing innovations, such as carbon-neutral AI and liquid cooling, underscoring the broader push for sustainable technology. This trend is vital for smaller companies, which often lack the resources to implement cutting-edge cooling systems.

Smaller firms like Qarnot Computing are leveraging similar innovations, such as heat-recycling servers, to remain competitive while contributing to energy efficiency. Schneider and Nvidia’s scalable solutions could empower more small and medium enterprises to adopt AI, fostering innovation across industries. This story illustrates the necessity for technological advancement to align with sustainability, a shift critical for both environmental and business viability.
