Orange and Telesat partner for advanced satellite connectivity

  • Orange and Telesat sign a multi-year agreement for Telesat lightspeed LEO satellite services and infrastructure.
  • The partnership enhances global connectivity, especially in remote regions, through a resilient, secure network.

What happened: Orange and Telesat expand satellite connectivity with strategic agreement

Orange, a global telecom leader, and Telesat, a major satellite operator, partnered to enhance connectivity using the Telesat Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) network. This collaboration strengthens Orange’s satellite services and improves access in underserved areas across Europe, Africa, and beyond.

Under the agreement, Orange will host a Telesat Lightspeed Landing Station at its Bercenay-en-Othe teleport in France. The station will connect via Orange Wholesale’s International Private Line (IPL) to Paris, ensuring seamless integration into Orange’s global services.

Emmanuel Rochas, CEO of Orange Wholesale International, said this partnership reinforces Orange’s expertise in space networks. Glenn Katz, Telesat’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted Telesat Lightspeed’s secure, high-performance connectivity meeting telecom industry standards.

Telesat Lightspeed Carrier Ethernet services enable real-time network control, letting operators adjust capacity without intervention. Its Zero-Trust Security Architecture follows top security standards, ensuring protection. By combining Telesat’s LEO technology with Orange’s infrastructure, the partnership enhances global connectivity and network resilience.

Why it’s important

This agreement advances global digital infrastructure by combining Telesat’s satellite technology with Orange’s telecom expertise. Deploying Telesat Lightspeed at Orange’s Bercenay-en-Othe teleport strengthens low-latency, high-speed satellite connectivity in remote regions.

The partnership meets growing demand for satellite-based solutions as terrestrial networks struggle to reach isolated areas. Telesat Lightspeed’s Carrier Ethernet services improve flexibility, allowing real-time configuration. The Zero-Trust Security Architecture ensures compliance with cybersecurity standards in satellite communications.

Orange’s global network, spanning 26 countries, benefits from Telesat Lightspeed, reinforcing its multi-orbit satellite strategy. This supports mobile backhaul, disaster recovery, and enterprise connectivity in remote areas.

The collaboration highlights telecom and satellite operators working together for resilient, seamless connectivity. It demonstrates the increasing role of LEO satellites in next-generation telecom solutions, shaping future industry partnerships.
